Thank you to everyone who came out to the farm this year to enjoy Pumpkinfest.  The official end of Pumpkinfest was noted Tuesday morning as pumpkins, scarecrows and fall decorations were replaced by snowmen, reindeer and tree ornaments.  The Christmas season has started folks!

Staff members really started to talk about the holiday season this morning while decorating our 2 Fraser Fir trees in the barn market.  Christmas trees will be available beginning November 26th.  Pick out your family tree then let us cut to your liking and  wrap it for you while you enjoy some hot apple cider inside.

Lunch with Santa is beginning to fill up.  Give us a call to book your special spot with the big man himself.  Your kids will love singing and dancing with the elves and Santa, then some 1 on 1 time with St. Nick too!

Before you come out to the farm, check out our new hours.  November we are open Friday, Saturday & Sunday 9am – 5pm, Dec 1st – 23rd 9am -5pm then Dec 24th 9am – 4pm.

Kid Pics

Our front lawn is not only filled with pumpkins in October but families.  More specifically, Moms & Dads with cameras and their children nestled in amoungst the pumpkins.  There is 1 weekend left before all the pumpkins disappear so come on in to get that last pumpkin perfect pic for 2011.

Fresh air, family, fun, exercise…sounds like a great day!  Bring the family out to Pumpkinfest and let your kids

  • Jump in the Straw Jump
  • Ride the wagon
  • Pedal around our brand new pedal cart race track
  • Pet the farm animals
  • Be amazed by our magicians and fabulous children entertainers
  • Race their way through the Caterpillar crawl
  • Bounce around the Horse Jump
  • Pump their duck to first place in the Great Duck Race
  • Breathe in fresh farm air
  • Explore the farm to their fullest in a fun and safe environment! 

And at the end of the day?  Sleep soundly on the way home while Mom & Dad happily munch on pumpkin donuts.

Thanksgiving Weekend

Thanksgiving weekend is the perfect opportunity to enjoy time with family.  We are very excited and thankful to be sharing this holiday with our newest grandchild – Angus Downey, September 28th. 

For many, the Fall season is a favorite, espescially at the farm.   Our senses are awakened with the beautiful colours of Fall, the chilly mornings and unpredictable afternoons, and the smell and taste of fresh baked pumpkin pies & pumpkin donuts.  You’ll be happy to know, our donut machine is now back up and running after 3 days of repair….I don’t think the Bakery Ladies could handle anymore sad customer faces!!

So this weekend be thankful for family & health, the beauty of Fall and that the donut machine is fixed!

Best of the Season

Every week, staff will hear me say: ”This is the my favorite time of the year.’  I am refering to the abundance of fresh Ontario fruits and vegetables that are now available at the farm.   I can’t wait to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner because the market is glowing with a rainbow of colours; a true reflection of Ontario Farmers produce at it’s best.

Take the opportunity of summer’s warm temperatures and visit a farm, or farmers market.  If you find yourself in the grocery store, look for the Ontario Foodland symbol.  What if you don’t see it?  Ask!!  Make it known that you care that your food is produced in Ontario.   I have a friend who has now been kicked out of 2 grocery stores because she is such an advocate for Ontario Farmers!! lol

So while out there shopping, here is a taste of what’s in season during August

Summer Camp Fun

School is almost out…do you know what your children are doing this summer? 

Why not bring your kids to the farm for some fun, educational and an experience like no other?  Downey’s Summer Farm Camp is this August for children aged 5-10 years old.  There are 2 weeks available: August 15-19 & August 22-26.  Your children will have fun developing their social skills, learning farm life and playing in a fun and safe environment.
